Can I take the road test at your school if I'm not a student?

Anyone eligible for the road test can take it at our school. You do not have to be a student.

What are the requirements for the road skills test?

After completing the 38-hour or 14-hour class, and you are at least 16 years old, you may register for the road skills test. 

AGE 16:

  • Learner's Permit (Held for at least 180 days)
  • Birth Certificate
  • Parent Present and name listed on the Birth Certificate

AGE 17:

  • Certificate of Completion from driving school
  • Temporary Instructors Permit (TIP)
  • Birth Certificate
  • Learner's Permit
  • Parent Present and name listed on the Birth Certificate

AGE 18 & UP:

  • State Temporary Instructor Permit (TIP) or Learner's Permit
  • Certificate of Completion from driving school

Driver Ed Classes

When is the parents' meeting?

Parent meeting information will be sent out via email giving the day and time of the meeting. The meeting will be held via Zoom. 

Parents need to attend a parent meeting before their student attends class. The Parent Meeting covers all information in regards to the students drivers education process and all of Koala Driving Academy policies and procedures.

 

What if I need to miss a class?

If any necessary absence occurs during the classroom portion of instruction, contact the office to work out when the class time can be made up. If a student misses any classroom portion, the class must be made up at an additional fee.

Policies

How do I get a Temporary Instructional Permit (TIP)?

Per OMV regulation, all students must obtain a temporary instructional permit (TIP) before starting driver education. TIP cards are issued by appointment only at the Office of Motor Vehicle locations (not issued at Express locations).

You must bring the following documents to your OMV appointment:

  • Original Birth Certificate

  • Social Security Card

  • One Custodial Parent with a Driver's License (if the student is under 18)

Students without a TIP card cannot attend class and must schedule make-up classes during another available session. 

What is your refund policy?

Deposits and payments are non-refundable. Students may have a one-time reschedule to another class date if they cannot attend the original class. Please call as soon as possible if you or your child cannot attend any class.

If the school cannot complete a student's course, then a parent or adult student may request a refund in writing for the uncompleted portion of the course. This refund should be made available within ten days of the request. In the event of a school's closure, either by voluntary measures or by action of DPS, a refund will be issued upon written request. All refunds will be processed within 30 days after the effective date of termination or request, whichever occurs first.

What is the age requirement for registration?

The student must be at least 14 years and 9 months on the first day of class and 15 to start behind-the-wheel driving lessons. 

What method of payment do we accept?

We accept cash, checks, money orders, debit, or credit cards. 

Behind-the-Wheel Lessons

How do I schedule a behind-the-wheel lesson?

Log in to your student account on our website. Choose an available time and your preferred instructor.

Do I need to have my own car insurance for behind-the-wheel?

No, you are covered under our commercial insurance during all behind-the-wheel training lessons.

Can I use my own car?

No, our vehicles have safety features (passenger brake, passenger mirror, student driver signs, etc.) that don't come in standard cars.

How do I cancel or reschedule my driving lesson?

Should you need to reschedule a lesson, you may do so by logging into your account on our website. You must cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a $60 late cancellation fee.

Will I have other students in the car with me?

No. All of our behind-the-wheel driving lessons are private.

Will I have the same instructor for every lesson?

Our scheduling software lets you see all available driving lessons and who is teaching them. You may choose the same instructor for each lesson if they are open or try a different instructor.

Can I request a specific driving instructor?

Our scheduling software lets you see all available driving lessons and who is teaching them. If your preferred instructor is open, you can select them for a lesson.

When can I start the behind-the-wheel lessons?

You can start driving lessons anytime if you have a valid learner's permit or driver's license. You can schedule driving lessons on our website once you have registered and paid in full. If you are under 18, you must complete the driver ed class before starting behind-the-wheel lessons.

Do you charge a cancellation fee?

If you fail to show up for a lesson or do not cancel or reschedule on our website at least 24 hours in advance, you will be charged a $60 late cancellation fee.
